The first weeks at Â鶹ÊÓƵ are focused on building familiarity with new surroundings, fostering connections and developing technical skills for secondary school.
°Õ³ó±ðÌýcamp program is scheduled during Term 2, providing an opportunity for our new cohort of students to get to know each other, foster new friendships and develop greater independence in an interactive outdoor environment. It also aims to strengthen students’ collaborative and co-operative skills which will support their academic studies and wellbeing at secondary school.
Getting Ready for Your First Day
Here are some simple tips to prepare for the first day at school:
- Go to bed early the night before and have a good night’s sleep in anticipation of a big day.
- Pack your school bag with a pencil case and some stationery. Remember you do not have to bring all your books on the first day.
- Organise your school uniform. Don’t forget your blazer!
- Please allow extra time for parking during the first week of school.
First Week Activities
During the first weeks of school, a number of activities are scheduled to help all students gain confidence, get to know Avila and our learning tools.
School Photos
At Â鶹ÊÓƵ, we schedule our class photos for the first day of school, so be sure to tie your hair back, wear your full academic uniform and smile!
Timetable
Students will be introduced to the school timetable. During the “Getting to Know Your Mac’ session students will be shown how to access the timetable on SIMON.
Lockers
Students will be allocated a locker for their bag, books and other resources. A padlock together with a unique combination code will also be provided. Homeroom teachers will also have a copy of the combination as a back up.
Getting to know your MacBook
Leased MacBooks will be distributed to students in the first week, together with the . Students will be introduced to the MacBook settings, Google Drive and SIMON during a series of interactive sessions.
Scavenger Hunt
Year 7 students will be allocated in teams to explore, discover and answer questions during a Scavenger Hunt. This will provide an opportunity to get to know the College campus, key areas and personnel of the school.
Year 7 Testing
In the first weeks of Term 1, all Year 7 students will undergo testing in Literacy and Numeracy. This information provides Â鶹ÊÓƵ with a snapshot of where students are currently placed in their individual learning and will assist the College in developing teaching and learning goals to meet the needs of all students. These tests will be administered digitally.
